HYDERABAD: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Osmania General Hospital (OGH) on Wednesday demanded early construction of the new hospital building.

Doctors said that they met health minister T. Harish Rao on July 3 in this regard and the minister had assured that the government would file an affidavit in the high court within a week for the construction of a new building on the OGH campus.

“Even after two weeks since we met the government has taken no action so far. We request the government to submit an affidavit as early as possible and address the issues faced by the patients and the staff in the hospital”, said the JAC members.

Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan had visited the OGH on July 3 and met the patients and doctors. Later, on the same day the health minister called for a high-level meeting with the officials and representatives to discuss the issue.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, a JAC member said, “We want the state government to stick to its assurance and take action, file an affidavit in the high court for the new building construction. If the government continues with inaction, we will call an indefinite strike in the coming week till our demands are met”.

There is an acute shortage of beds in various departments of the hospital. It requires at least 1,800 beds to meet the healthcare needs of the patients.
