Bengaluru: Management requests, IISc agitators stop protest
They were demanding salary hikes and promotions that had been denied to them for decades.
BENGALURU: Non-teaching and support staff of the Indian Institute of Science, who had launched an indefinite strike, have stopped it following a request from the institute’s management. They were demanding salary hikes and promotions that had been denied to them for decades.
“We assembled to resume the strike this (Monday) morning. The management requested us to keep it on hold till they came to a solution. We have given them till September 26 to solve the issue,” said one of the protesters.
A letter was written by the leaders of the protesting employees, asking the IISc executive committee to take action immediately, he said.
The employees are hoping the issue will be discussed at the IISc Council meeting that will take place on September 21 and 27 with members of the Ministry of Human Resources Development. IISc Director Anurag Kumar remained unavailable for comment.
