KOZHIKODE: City residents do not have to wait for the lunch break to finish to get services done at Kozhikode Municipal Corporation’s Janasevana Kendram anymore. The civic body has decided to implement the shift system for the Kendram staff in order to provide uninterrupted services seven hours a day from 9 am to 4pm. The Corporation is planning to execute the new system from September 28.

At present, the Janasevana Kendram is working from 10.15 am to 4 pm with a one-hour lunch break from 1.15 pm to 2.15 pm. “We have noticed that people have to wait for hours in order to get things done due to the one-hour break. That’s the reason for implementing the shift system,” said Kozhikode Municipal Corp-oration Mayor Thottathil Raveendran. When the shift system kicks in, the current 4.45 working hours will be extended to seven hours.

Standing Committee Chairman in-charge of Janasevana Kendram K.V Baburaj said that the Corporation also required the support of the Information Kerala Mission (IKM), the technological partner of the Kendram for the effective implementation of the system. “We are waiting for IKM’s consent to include its staff in the shift system. Once we get the consent, ours will be the first Corporat-ion to provide uninterrupted services for seven hours,” he added. IKM Executive Director C.P Suresh Kumar said that IKM would support any such project. “Our job is to provide technical support for the Kendram and we are happy to co-operate with civic bodies,” he added.
