Annavaram: Restore School Bus services, say Students
VISAKHAPATNAM: Students of Annavaram BC girls hostel are forced to commute between their school and hostel by walk, as the school bus services were stopped owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The hostel, which has over 130 students, is located at a distance of nearly 5 km from the schools.
“No matter how many times we have pleaded and sent requests to the social welfare department and RTC officials, our pleas have gone unheard,” the students said.
On Tuesday, the students organized a rally from Annavaram hostel to Kothur junction, demanding the government to intervene and restore the school bus services. Students between classes 3 and 10 participated in the protest.
“Every day, we are carrying heavy bags and are walking on the main road, through narrow stretches. This is putting us at risk of accidents. In the evening, mischief mongers in front of liquor shops make derogatory remarks. Owing to traffic, we are unable to reach our school on time,” students said.
After noticing such issues, nearly 40 children were taken out of the school by their parents. Some parents have also complained to the school authorities about the situation.
