Kerala government fails to pay rent, man hangs self

Thiruvananthapuram: A  man allegedly committed suicide near Neyyatinkara on Saturday after government authorities defaulted in paying rent to his building that houses the excise checkpost for over 15 years. The deceased identified as Jayakumar, 51,  of Mambazhakkara under Marayumuttom police station limits hanged himself from a tree next to the checkpost at Kottavaram junction near Mambazhakkara.

He climbed the tree and committed suicide  using a dhoti around 2.30 p.m.  He was taken to Neyyatinkara GH by local residents but  was declared dead on arrival.  He  was fighting checkpost officials legally and they were ready to give half the rent, the police said.
