Caning hotelier: DCP records ACP's statement
DCP Rathor has recorded the statements of Rajeev, his hotel staff and ACP Manjunath.
Bengaluru: The owner of Shetty Lunch Home on Dinnur Road in RT Nagar on Sunday approached the R.T. Nagar police to file a formal complaint against the J.C. Nagar Assistant Commissioner of Police Manjunath Babu, who had caned him on November 9 for keeping the hotel open till midnight.
The police, however, did not accept his complaint saying an inquiry into the issue has been taken up by DCP (North) Chethan Singh Rathor and hence the complaint cannot be registered, Rajeev Shetty, the hotel owner, told Deccan Chronicle.
DCP Rathor has recorded the statements of Rajeev, his hotel staff and ACP Manjunath. “I had summoned both the parties and have recorded their statements. After examining them, the report would be submitted to the police commissioner,” Rathor said.
“I was hit so badly for no mistake of mine. I had permission to keep the hotel open till 1 am. But it was not even midnight when the ACP came and started caning me. I did not utter a single word to him. The entire incident is recorded on the CCTV which I have submitted to the inquiry officer,” Rajeev said.
It may be recalled that a video of ACP Manjunath caning Rajeev went viral on social and electronic media platforms on November 15. The video footage, recorded at 11.56 pm on November 9, showed ACP Manjunath entering the hotel and caning Rajeev allegedly for keeping the hotel open till midnight.
