HYDERABAD: A two-judge bench of the Telangana High Court on Monday directed Kamineni Institute of Medical Sciences to allow students with 65 per cent attendance to pay and appear for the final MBBS Part II regular examinations.

The bench, comprising Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice N. Tukaramji, was dealing with a writ appeal filed by students who were not allowed to pay the examination fee and appear for the said examinations.

Earlier, a single judge had dismissed their petition. The bench was informed that as per the varsity’s original instructions, MBBS I year students are required to have 75 per cent attendance.

When the university realised that many students failed to meet the required criteria due to the Covid-19 lockdown, the minimum attendance was revised to 65 per cent. The petitioners pointed out that they had more than 65% of attendance. The bench directed the college to allow them to pay the fee and appear in the examinations that will commence on Tuesday. The bench will continue to hear the matter on March 13.
