Coimbatore: A rare three-feet-long flying snake was rescued from the outdoors of Coimbatore district’s Kalampalayam village on Monday after residents spotted it flying and crawling from one tree to another.

The villagers were scared by the sight of the reptile and immediately called snake rescuers to trap the reptile.

The snake rescuer, Ranjith, identified the reptile as the rare flying snake, which is found in Sri Lanka. According to him, the swift movements of the snake from one tree to another makes it look like it can fly from afar.

The species is usually found in dry zone lowlands and parts of the intermediate climatic zones in Sri Lanka. The reptile was later handed over to forest department.
