TKM College of Engineering students bashed up after DJ party
TKM College campus shut indefinitely.
KOLLAM: Some 25 students at the TKM College of Engineering here got hospitalised after violent clashes in the wee hours of Monday following a DJ party as part of Conjura, a techno-managerial fest, on the campus. The final year students bashed up their immediate juniors using wooden shafts and iron rods in their hostel. University Union councillor Vaishnav, 20, sustained grave injuries on his head. Kilikolloor Police arrested 13 students responsible for the attack. Authorities shut the campus indefinitely after evicting last-year hostellers.
“It was the final day, and they were celebrating with a DJ party. The friction started on petty issues which later snowballed into a gang fight. Both the third and fourth-year students were injured,” the police told Deccan Chronicle. Students danced to the tune of the DJ by setting separate boundaries for the final-year students and the rest.
After the DJ, they entered the hostel of third-year students and attacked them. The police that rushed to the spot could not handle the situation at first but brought it under control by arresting 13 of them. Students staged a sit-in before the college office on Monday morning demanding justice as many of those hurt were innocent. Meanwhile, a tense situation still prevails in the vicinity with gangs preparing for vengeance.
