Delicate vet surgery saves pony's vision
The team anaesthetized the horse and successfully removed the live parasitic worm from the eye. The animal made an uneventful recovery later.
Thanjavur: A surgical team of the Tamil Nadu Government Veterinary College and Research Institute (VCRI) Hospital at Orathanadu, 20-km from here, successfully removed a live moving parasitic worm in the anterior chamber of the left eye of a three-year-old pony belonging to one Mr. Jagadeesh of Thanjavur on Sunday. Jagadeesh had brought the pony to the hospital with the complaint of visual disturbance and corneal opacity for the past three days. Detailed clinical examination revealed the presence of a live moving parasitic worm in the anterior chamber of the left eye causing the visual disturbance and it was decided to remove the worm surgically. Under the directions of Dr P.Mohan, dean (in-charge) VCRI, a surgical team headed by Dr A. Palaniswami with Dr S. SenthilKumar, Dr P.Tamil mahan, Dr M.Saravanan, Dr T.Arulkumar, Dr K. Kannan and Dr P.K. Ramkumar, was formed.
