Kollam: Akshay Anand, who secured the second rank in the Kerala engineering entrance, is happy about his result but keen on getting admission to the IIT as he has also excelled in JEE with the 304th position. Son of Dr Anand Sreenivasan and Dr Jayasree, Akshay has no plans to become a doctor and has studied maths and computer science instead of biology.

Hailing from Kavumbhagom in Thiruvalla, he secured the top rank at his first attempt. "Attending entrance coaching centre also helped me a lot. I usually sit and study till late night and wake up very late. During holidays, I spend at least six hours on preparations," he told DC. He will have computer science as his first choice at the IIT followed by electrical engineering.

A student of Placid Vidya Vihar in Changanassery, he advises entrance aspirants to work out more and more question papers that would help them efficiently manage time. Mr Akshay has a sister, Akshara, who is in Class VIII.
