Yoga Day to be celebrated on larger scale in Puducherry

At least 4,500 students from 34 schools, 700 students from 15 colleges and 800 NCC cadets will be part of the celebrations on Beach road at 6.30 am.

Puducherry: International Yoga Day will be celebrated on a much larger scale this year in Puducherry with the  direction from Lt Governor Kiran Bedi  that awareness on yoga to be created among students and public and thereby encourage thousands to participate in the celebrations.

At least 4,500  students from 34 schools, 700  students from 15 colleges and 800 NCC cadets will be part of the celebrations on Beach road at 6.30 am  on Tuesday.

Lt Governor Kiran Bedi, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy , ministers and other dignitaries will also take part in the function. As part of the training, thousands of students performed different yoga asanas on the Beach Road on Sunday morning. Police personnel also practised yoga at the Gorimedu police training grounds. On the other hand, trained participants of the Advanced Centre for Yoga Therapy Education and Research of Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer) conducted a demonstration near the Gandhi statue on Monday.

Jipmer has trained about 200 persons in their  yoga  camp, a month-long programme between May 21 and June 20 in order to create awareness.
