Heatwave ends in Telangana, temperatures to drop gradually

HYDERABAD: Temperatures will see a gradual decrease and bring relief to the people of Telangana state from the extended simmering summer days, according to the IMD report on Tuesday.

The highest maximum temperature in the state on Tuesday was recorded at 44.7 degrees Celsius in Nalgonda, followed by 44.4ºC in Kumaram Bheem and 44.2 ºC in Mulugu as per the Telangana State Development and Planning Society.

Severe heatwave condition was recorded in the 18 districts of Bhadradri Kothgudem, Hanumkonda, Jagtial, Jangoan, Jayashnakar, Karimnagar, Kumaram Bheem, Mancherial, Mulugu, Nalgonda, Adilabad, Khammam, Medak, Nizamabad, Peddapalli, Siddipet, Warangal and Yadadri Bhuvangiri districts in the state.

In Hyderabad, mercury levels crossed the 40ºC mark and recorded a maximum temperature of 41.4ºC in Secunderabad, with Serilingamaplly at 40.7ºC and Asifnagar and Khairatabad at 40.6ºC.

The monsoon further advanced in the southern part of the district with low-level north westerlies prevailing over the state.

Light to moderate rains or thunderstorms accompanied with lightning are very likely to occur over the next five days in the state and a yellow warning has been issued for the same.

Over the next 48 hours, the city will have a generally cloudy sky and light to moderate rains or thundershowers are very likely to occur towards evening or night. Surface winds are likely to be north-westerlies with speeds around 8-10 kmph and maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be 37ºC and 27ºC respectively.
