TS catches first glimpse of monsoon
HYDERABAD: Hyderabad witnessed the first spell of monsoon on Wednesday evening, with the much-awaited showers bringing relief from a long summer of soaring temperatures well past the usual peak.
However, the India Meteorological Department, which predicted the onset of monsoon on Thursday, did not officially declare the rain spell as an indicator of monsoon onset.
An IMD official told Deccan Chronicle: “We will observe the rainfall recorded before the onset of the monsoon is declared in the state. As of now, the rainfall is recorded only in some districts and is significantly very less.”
The highest rainfall in the state, of 82.5 mm, was recorded at Jangaon, which was followed by Nagarkurnool (58.5 mm) and Siddipet (55.8 mm), according to the TS Development and Planning Society report.
