Thrissur: Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala has  demanded  a CBI inquiry into the allegations that BJP leaders in the state have taken  bribes for getting the Indian Medical Council nod for some  medical colleges in Kerala.   He said here on Thursday that  even national BJP leaders were involved in the scam. Considering the possibilities of a larger scam, the CBI should conduct a  probe, he said. Saying  that BJP leaders were also held for printing  counterfeit currencies at  Kodungallur, he alleged that they  were involved in large-scale corruption with central assistance.

“What has come in the open is only the tip of the  iceberg.  Only through a proper CBI inquiry, the truth will be revealed,” he added. Comparing it  to  the Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh, he said that the Vigilance department  should register a suo motu case. About the reports of tax evasion of ‘AMMA’ in  the guise of charity, he alleged that black money was being  pumped into the Malayalam film industry.

“Though only a few films are making profit and even shown in theatres, more films are being made.  Out of  150 films,  only 10 make profit,”  he said. About the suicide of a youth who was tortured   at the Pavaratty police station here, he said that the culprits should be dismissed from service.   He also asked the government to give Rs 25 lakh to the family of the youth.
