Multi-level car parking to come up in Visakhapatnam
VISAKHAPATNAM: The state’s first giant multi-level car parking (MLCP)-cum commercial complex in port city of Vizag could be available for users by May 2023 if all goes well as per plans of Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA).
The MLCP is being built over an area of 1.72 acres in Siripuram at a projected cost of Rs. 80 crore, including GST charges, to accommodate 450 cars and 600 plus two-wheelers, apart from space for commercial establishments like supermarkets and offices of corporate companies.
The Siripuram MLCP will be a 11-storey structure near VMRDA's Children's Arena, VMRDA office, HPCL-owned Millennium petrol bunk, Andhra University and WNS Global Services (old office of HSBC). Five floors, three below ground and two above, will be allocated for parking of 450 cars and 600 two-wheelers.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, VMRDA superintending engineer in-charge M. Balaramaraju said, “The project is planned to be completed within 18 months from signing of the contract with the contractor. The project got finalised in 2021 December. About 20 percent of the work has been completed. We can release it for operational purposes by May 2023. This structure is like a cruise ship. It is best suited for commercial and corporate offices like IT companies. Once all parking slots are occupied, there will be monthly revenue of around Rs. 60 lakh.”
Visakhapatnam collector A. Mallikarjuna, who reviewed the progress of project, expressed satisfaction with the work. He said more workers could be deployed for speeding up the project.
The MLCP assumes significance due to increasing traffic woes in Children’s Arena during festivals, marriages and office functions. This apart, the nearby WNS company with more than 5,000 employees will open its office after Dasara. The MLCP is located about 1.5 km from the beach road.
Siripuram MLCP will be the first after the one at Jagadamba junction in the city.
