Kerala to launch special tax drive in Ernakulam

Kochi: Finance minister Thomas Isaac said that a special tax drive will be launched in Ernakulam district as 60 per cent of VAT collection is from there. The proposed drive ‘Operation Ernakulam’ will be launched by November 1. Main components of the drive would be to monitor returns, ensure total compliance and initiate campaigns to settle trade issues.

Steps to sort out litigations will also be initiated in consultation with the advocate general, Mr Isaac told reporters here on Thursday. He also said that the government was firm on its stand that once GST was implemented there should be hike in tax on luxury goods only and essential commodities should be spared from any tax hikes.
