HYDERABAD: After a delay of almost a week, the southwest monsoon withdrew from most parts of the state on Friday. According to the IMD, conditions were very likely to be favourable for the complete withdrawal of monsoon from the country in the next two days.

The day was marked by a few farewell showers. However, there was concern that a developing weather system in the Bay of Bengal could cause rain here: AP is set for a wet Diwali

Many areas experienced moderate to heavy rain such as Rajendranagar (26.8 mm, the highest), Uppal (25.5 mm), Saidabad (24.8 mm), Chandrayangutta, Chaitanyapuri, Saroonagar, Meerpet, Dilsukhnagar, Lingampally, Malakpet, Saidabad, Philsabanda, Charminar, Tarnaka, Kapra, Malkajgiri, Bahadurpura and Bandlaguda.

Despite water-logging and traffic jams reported at some places, citizens heaved a sigh of relief upon realising the monsoon — bountiful as it was — was on its last legs.

Md Ali, a resident of Chandrayangutta said, “Finally this is the last day of the rain so we are fine with the spells today and hoping for friendly weather for coming months”.

Many people took to social media to share their joy over the monsoons ending after a havoc-filled season. With Diwali just around the corner, people also hoped that they would be able to celebrate the festival without rains plaing spoilsport.

G. Narsimha from Tarnaka said, “We will have a good celebration for Diwali, unlike Ganesh and Dasara as there will be no more rains”.
