Towards the evening 1.30 lakh people had donated blood
Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh has created a world record in blood donation on Wednesday on the occasion of Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s 50th birthday celebrations held all over the State, said minister for Industries and Investments Gudivada Amarnath.
Around 1.30 lakh people donated blood by the evening, the minister stated.
Amarnath, who also donated blood in Anakapalli constituency, along with party workers, said people came out voluntarily across the State to donate blood to mark the chief minister’s birthday. He said party workers from village level to the city took part in the programme.
“Blood donation camps were organised on the same day all over the State and it is a world record,’’ the minister added. He said the previous record was established in South Africa where 75,000 donated blood. He said in addition to blood donation camps, the party workers planted saplings all over the State on the occasion.
As part of the celebrations, celebratory cakes were cut, competitions in Rangoli, cricket, boxing and other sports were conducted by the party and prizes were distributed to the winners. Tabs were distributed to five lakh students on the occasion, the minister added.
