Five Dubbak VDC Members Arrested for Boycotting Padmashali Families Over Land Dispute
Nizamabad: Nizamabad police arrested five members of the Dubbak village development committee in Dharpally mandal on Thursday for boycotting 40 Padmashali community families following a row over land.
The VDC members had tried to occupy the assigned land belonging to the Padmashali community members on the pretext of village development, police said. To mount pressure on the community members, the VDC had socially boycotted them and imposed a penalty of Rs 50,000.
Following this, Dharpally police registered a case and arrested VDC members Kotthi Rajasekhar alias Sekhar Reddy, 43; Penda Arun alias Arjun, 26l Donkena Chinna Gangaram, 54; Burki Narsa Goud alias Chegunta Narsa Goud, 67; and Bhumeda Murali alias Vadla Murali, 37, of Dubbak on Thursday.
They were produced before second additional judicial first class magistrate and sent to remand.
Additional deputy commissioner of police S. Jayaram warned that serious action will be initiated if any VDC imposes a social boycott. VDC members targeted particular communities and their shops and professions, he said.
Meanwhile, Velpur police arrested nine VDC members in Ameenapur village for socially boycotting 35 families from the SC Mala community. Police registered a case against 24 VDC members on December 16 on the charges imposing social boycott. The arrested persons were sent to judicial remand on Thursday. Remaining accused are absconding.
