Upgradation of Nellore railway station brisk

VIJAYAWADA: Upgradation of Nellore Railway Station taken on a priority basis is going on briskly, SCR general manager Arun Kumar Jain said on Saturday.
The station falls on the Grand Trunk route with footfall of 30,000 passengers a day. It has thus been chosen for modernisation under the Major Upgradation of Railway Stations project for providing world-class amenities with elegant features for handling current as well as future passenger traffic.
Railway officials said site offices have already been set up, along with storage sheds for stacking materials and a lab for testing concrete. IIT-Madras is checking the design submitted by the agency for upgradation of Nellore station.
Construction of temporary sheds for functioning of GRP offices and the court has been completed. These have been handed over to respective departments. Eight COP pedestals have been built on Platform 1 and four each on platforms 2 and 4. Fabrication of COP is under progress.
Old structures are being dismantled and excavation works have started. 250 metric tonnes of steel is being procured by the agency for construction purposes.
Officials underlined that upgradation works are being monitored at every stage.
