ANANTAPUR: Uravakonda police have registered a case against a 23-year-old youth for tying a mangalasutra around the neck of an 8th class student at Amidyala in Anantapur district.

A video of the youth tying the yellow thread, while villagers are encouraging him, has gone viral on social media.

The father of the girl, studying at the government school in the village, had died recently. Her mother is working as a farm labour.

Srikanth, a 23-year-old youth from the village, had been professing his love for the girl and the entire village knew about it.

On Saturday, the youth suddenly tied a yellow thread around the neck of the girl in front of her house while the villagers encouraged him like in a reality show. In the video that has gone viral, the youth in shorts can be seen tying the knot to the girl in her nightie.

On getting to know that the girl is a minor, Uravakonda police took the matter seriously and have registered a case against Srikanth.
