Thiruvananthapuram: Smart City area finalised
An idea that is being strongly considered is to have an integrated waste management project.
Thiruvananthapuram: One of the most important milestones in preparing the smart city proposal – fixing the area where the proposed development will happen - has been completed. Now, the theme for the project needs to be finalized. An idea that is being strongly considered is to have an integrated waste management project. “If they go ahead with this, then it will serve as a pilot project, which can be replicated in the entire city,” says an official.
The area chosen stretches from LMS to Manaveeyam, Thycaud Road, Government Model LP School, Swathi Tirunal Music College, Mettukkada, Karamana Road, Attakkulangara Bypass, West Fort, Uppidammoodu Bridge, Vanchiyoor Court, General Hospital, Palayam Martyr’s Column and LMS. That covers 1401 acres spread over Fort, Chalai, Palayam, Thampanoor, Vanchiyoor, Sreekanteshwaram, Vazhuthacaud and Thycaud. While the maximum area to be funded by the smart city project is 1200 acres, sources say that it would not be a problem. There will be areas inside the chosen area where redevelopment may not be possible, and then eventually the area might get limited to 1200 acres, they say.
