Agence Fran§aise de D©veloppement doubtful of Kochi Metro deadline
AFD team says that Metro's commercial service by November will be a tough challenge.
KOCHI: The three-member delegation from the French funding agency AFD (Agence Française de Développement) after reviewing the progress of Kochi Metro construction works observed that though works have been progressing at a fast pace, beginning the commercial service on November 1 would be a tough challenge.
Mr Nicolas Fornage, regional director for South Asia, AFD, said getting all necessary clearances from various agencies to start the commercial service will be difficult. Addressing reporters here on Thursday after discussions with Kochi Metro Rail Limited MD Elias George and other top officials, the French delegation expressed satisfaction that the project is being implemented without cost escalation and much delay.
“The KMRL could save funds which can be used for further phases of the Metro,” Mr Fornage said. Mr Cheikh DIA, project officer, AFD, and Ms Juliette Le Pannerer (project coordinator, AFD, Delhi) are the other team members. Mr George said that though some important decisions have been taken with the French team, it can’t be announced now due to enforcement of election code of conduct.
