Kerala Assembly Elections: Nominations from today

The last date for filing nominations is April 29.

Thiruvananthapuram: The candidates for the Assembly elections can file their nominations  with the election notification  being  issued on Friday. The Governor will formally issue  the notification, following which the chief electoral officer will re-issue the election schedule of the Election Commission of India.

Nominations can  be filed before the designated returning officer for each constituency between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.  The last date for filing nominations is April 29.  The nominations would be scrutinised on April 30. A clear picture of the poll fray will be available by May 2, which is the last date for withdrawal of nominations.

Many prominent leaders,  including K. Muraleedharan and N. Sakhtan, are expected to file nominations on Friday itself. Election department sources said that with the elections being notified, there will be more restrictions on the government  taking any policy decisions.

Meanwhile, about ten  lakh more applications for enrolment and revisions in voters’ lists were received till April 19. These would be  considered for the  list for the coming elections. Of the 10,39,954 applications, the maximum number was received in Thiruvananthapuram (1,24,169) and the lowest in Wayanad (23,206).
