Kozhikode: Prisoners of Kozhikode District Jail are all set to get specialised training in baking.
Not just cakes and bread, they will get trained by experts in various snacks including macrons and few desserts.
The best part of the programme, according to officials, is they will get a certification that they can use to make a living once out of jail.
Baking of all standards and genre will be part of it. “Several bakers from various parts of the state have approached us after we came up with this idea," said jail welfare officer Rajesh Kumar T.
"The primary reason for the initiative is that they will be able to join any reputed firm with this certification and experience. It will ensure a regular income to lead a normal life."
He adds: "Baking in the state has achieved international standards. A lot of cakes inspired by foreign countries and desserts are now available in our hotels and other cafeteria’s. Hence the demand for such bakers will grow." The classes will begin in the second week next month.
