Chennai: Carpenter arrested for murdering lover

Chennai: The Mahabalipuram police arrested a 52-year-old carpenter from KK Nagar in city within 3 hours after he escaped from a lodge after killing his lover by slashing her throat with a knife suspecting infidelity on Wednesday.
The arrested was identified as Sukumar, who lives alone in KK Nagar.
He had allegedly killed his girl friend Vasanthi, 34, a widow from St Thomas Mount, at hotel Sagar located near Mahabalipuram bus stand after checking in to one of the rooms for 4 hours rental at around 10.30 am on Wednesday using fake names and fake phone numbers.
Hotel staff went to check the room as the couple failed to check out even after four hours and found the body of the woman. Based on information from the hotel staff, the police began investigation.
The phone number given at the hotel was a fake one, police noted. But, the police found a mobile phone with the dead body and also noticed that a particular number had called on that phone few times on Wednesday morning.
The investigators checked the location of that number with the help of cyber cell cops and found that it was moving towards Chennai from Mahabalipuram.

They were sure that the suspect was traveling in a bus and finally intercepted the bus in which he was traveling at Kelambakkam.
When police team started checking the passengers, he tried to slip away but the hostel staff identified him. Police immediately nabbed him. He later told the police that he killed her as he suspected that she was cheating on him.
