Bhongir BRS MLA appears before Income Tax officials

HYDERABAD: Bhongir BRS MLA P. Sekhar Reddy appeared before the income-tax department officials for questioning in connection with alleged tax evasion, at their office here on Thursday.

This followed the raids by 70 teams on Sekhar Reddy as also BRS legislator Marri Janardhan Reddy of Nagarkurnool and Medak MP K. Prabahakar Reddy in connection with alleged tax evasion and illegal investments into several business activities.

Sekhar Reddy, who went to the I-T office along with his auditors, submitted some papers for verification. Earlier, Sekhar Reddy said that he is doing real estate business in Hyderabad and his wife had invested in real estate and other businesses in Bengaluru,

The I-T officials reportedly focused on investments into several businesses, sources of income, benami transactions, illegal cash transactions and others. Income-tax officials, who served notices to the family of the slain gangster Mohammed Nayeemuddin, suspecting that Sekhar Reddy might have been a Benami for his properties in Bhongir.

The I-T officials are likely to write to the sub-registration office officials seeking details of properties located in Bhongir and other places to track the ownership and link documents of the land holdings. Earlier, the officials had seized documents apart from other materials from bank lockers in LB Nagar.
