KARIMNAGAR: Amid much fanfare, IT minister K. T. Rama Rao inaugurated the 500-metre-long cable-stayed bridge on Manair river in Karimnagar on Wednesday.

The bridge abuts the Manair River Front, which is under development.

At the inauguration, Rama Rao said Opposition party leaders would be scared seeing the enormous development that has transformed Karimnagar under the leadership of Backward Class welfare minister Gangula Kamalakar, whom Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao calls ‘Karimnagar Bheemudu’.

“Nine years back if Telangana state would not have been formed, people would not have witnessed the kind of development that they are witnessing now. People should think wisely about the situation of drinking and irrigation water needs, power supply and roads before Telangana state was formed and what the situation is today,” he said.

The district administration, along with Bharat Rashtra Samithi leaders, made elaborate arrangements for the programme.

The bridge opening started with fireworks, a laser show and cultural programmes. Professional singers were also invited. A large number of people, especially women, were mobilised on hired vehicles from across Karimnagar district for the event.

Rama Rao quoted lines of poet Dasharathi ‘Naa Telangana Koti Ratanala Veena’ (my Telangana is a Veena that shines with a crore gems). Rama Rao said similarly today under the leadership of KCR, Telangana has transformed into a fertile state where water is supplied to one-and-half-crore acres of land through the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project.

“(Minister) Kamalakar is working hard to supply 24-hour water supply to every household in Karimnagar city which would be for the first time in Telangana. Does the BJP state chief and Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar have any guts to take up development activities like that?” he asked.

“Enormous development is taking place in all sectors. People should bless the (BRS) government and must throw in the dustbin parties which do not work and are useless,” he appealed to the people.
