NSTL capable of designing submarine, says DG Naval Systems

Visakhapatnam: The Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL) is capable of designing a submarine, said director general naval systems and material Dr Y. Sreenivas Rao. He was speaking at the 54th Raising Day of NSTL in Visakhapatnam on Monday.

Rao said that the responsibility of NSTL has increased by having its products on the list of positive indigenous list. He said that NSTL has the capability of designing a submarine due to its state-of-the-art hydrodynamic research facilities. He also said that NSTL has been putting its best efforts into strengthening the nation with state-of-the-art underwater weapons, with the integral support of industries and academic institutions.

In his address, Dr Abraham Varughese, outstanding scientist and director of NSTL, explained the genesis of the laboratory and its evolution to the present stage of being a state-of-the-art premier naval research laboratory in the country.

He also briefed on the status of ongoing projects and stressed the innovative technologies to meet futuristic requirements as per the 2, 5, and 10-year plans of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). He also gave details of new technological improvements in the laboratory towards achieving the targets.

Senior scientists were present on the occasion.
