Telangana HC initiates case on cops for attacking lambada woman

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has initiated a suo motu case regarding a brutal attack by LB Nagar Police on a tribal woman identified as V. Lakshmi. The incident occurred when the LB Nagar Police picked up Lakshmi five days ago, alleging that she was soliciting customers on the highway.

It is reported that the police subjected her to physical assault during this detention. Her acquaintances have alleged that the police kicked her in the stomach, and she is currently receiving medical treatment at Jeevan Hospital in Karmanghat. These details were reported in various media.

Justice Surepally Nanda wrote a letter to the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court, attaching the news reports that highlighted the severe attack by LB Nagar Police on Lakshmi.

The judge not only called for action against police officers involved in the assault on the woman but also requested a directive to the police to register cases against these officers under the provisions of the STs (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.

Respondents named in the suo motu PIL include the Chief Secretary, principal secretary of the home department, DGP, Rachakonda police commissioner, DCP, ACP, and SHO of LB Nagar.
