Chennai Porsche accident: Racing champion Vikash seeks bail
In the impact, 10 three wheelers were damaged and auto drivers and inmates of the car sustained injuries.
Chennai: The reigning national racing champion Vikash Anand arrested on charges of killing a 29-year old auto-rickshaw driver and injuring others while driving his family friends’s Porsche car, has approached the principal Sessions court seeking bail.
In the bail plea, Vikash submitted that the accident took place at 3 am on Monday. While driving on Cathedral Road, he noticed a boulder kept on the road without any sign. In order to avoid hitting the boulder, the driver swerved the car to the left. Despite this, the right front wheel hit the boulder and got punctured. Hence, the driver lost the control of the car, which ran over stationary auto-rickshaws parked on the left side of the road.
In the impact, 10 three wheelers were damaged and auto drivers and inmates of the car sustained injuries. Arumugam, 29, an auto-driver succumbed to injuries. He said the accident was caused due to the boulder kept on the road without any sign and car tyre puncture.
“I was only a passenger in the car and did not drive the vehicle,” he said in his appeal. Adayar Traffic Investigation Wing police arrested Vikash and T. Charankumar, a co-passenger and registered cases against them. Stating that he was innocent, Vikash Anand sought bail from principal sessions court.
Meanwhile, in another bail petition filed by T. Chandrakumar has submitted that the car belonged to him and was driven by his friend Vikash, in an inebriated condition, causing the accident. City Public Prosecutor M.L. Jegan has opposed the bail petition and sought adjourning the petition to September 29, when the matter came up for hearing before the Principal Sessions Court, Judge Dr G. Jayachandran.
Appearing on behalf of Vikash Anand, senior advocate, B. Kumar requested the judge to adjourn the matter to Thursday. However, judge Dr Jayachandran posted the matter to Monday for further hearing.
