Transgender clinic at Ernakulam government general hospital

The Special clinic will function on a particular day every week to provide consultation and treatment for transgenders.

KOCHI: A special clinic for transgenders will be set up Ernakulam government general hospital, informed Health Minister K.K Shailaja. The General Hospital already has a facility for sex change surgery.  The Special clinic  will function on a  particular day every week to provide consultation and treatment  for transgenders. Such a facility is not available in any government or  private hospital in the district.

The CPM district committee had raised the issue of transgenders not getting proper care and treatment with the health minister and the hospital authorities, said district secretary P. Rajeev. “The LDF government has made efforts to bring the third gender community to the mainstream. Recruitment of transgenders in various posts of Kochi Metro has got worldwide attention,” P. Rajeev said.

IMA gives Rs 40 lakh to General Hospital

 

The Indian Medical Association, Kochi chapter has given Rs 40 lakh to the kitchen called ‘Oottupura’ at the General Hospital which provides free food to patients and bystanders.  The funds have been collected through the musical programme ‘Haritham Jeevanam’, said IMA Kochi chapter president Dr. M. Narayanan.  The amount, which will be sufficient to run the kitchen for 100 days, was handed over to Dr. A. Anitha, hospital superintendent. 

CPM district secretary P. Rajeev, IMA secretary Dr. V. Madhu, vice  president Dr. Junaid Rahman spoke on  the occasion. Meanwhile, surgical equipment worth Rs 10 lakh have been given to the General Hospital by Rotary Kochi United.  The money to purchase the equipment was  raised through the ticket sales of  the play  ‘Khasakhinte Ithihasam’, which was performed under the aegis of  Rotary Kochi United.  The equipment  was handed over by Habeeb Thangal, secretary and Arabind Chandrashekhar,  president, Rotary Kochi United.
