Majestic Kalpavriksha procession enthrals devotees at Tirumala

Tirupati: Annual Brahmotsavams at the sacred Tirumala Temple reached new heights of devotion and grandeur as thousands of devotees gathered to witness the majestic procession of the Kalpavriksha Vahanam and Sarvabhoopala Vahanam on Thursday.

The ancient temple town of Tirumala came alive with resounding chants of Govinda, Govinda…, as thousands of devotees thronged the streets to participate in the celestial event.

The day commenced with the procession of Kalpavriksha Vahanam, a celestial chariot adorned with a massive replica of the sacred Kalpavriksha tree, believed to fulfil all wishes of devotees. The vahanam moved through the four mada streets, carrying the divine idol of Lord Malayappa, dressed as Rajamannar, and sitting under the shade of the wish-fulfilling tree.

According to the legend, Vishwakarma had brought the Kalpavriksham from heaven to decorate the Brahmotsavam Vahanam for Malayappa Swamy.

During this seva, artists presented a series of arm forms in the four mada streets. A team from Hyderabad performed the Perni dance. Another from Tirupati portrayed the Sri Krishna Tulabharam. A team from Telangana impressed with Oggudolu. The Chennai-based Bharata Kala Academy performed Gajje Nrityam.

Towards Thursday evening, devotees witnessed the grandeur of Sarvabhoopala Vahanam, a chariot symbolising Lord Venkateswara Swamy as the universal monarch.

According to the legend, Sarvabhoopala signifies that the Lord’s supreme authority over the entire cosmos. The Vahanam highlights that Lord Venkateswara is the ultimate ruler of the entire universe, exercising control over all aspects of creation.
