Elizabeth Susan Koshy shoots down silver in police meet

Ms Koshy who led the contest in first two rounds lost due to a point difference in last round.

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala police clinched first silver in 10th All India Police Shooting Championship through circle inspector and National Games medallist Elizabeth Susan Koshy in 10-metre women’s air rifle. Ms Koshy who scored 411.5 points lost to Punjab police’s ace shooter Avneet Sidhu who scored 412.7 points. Ms Sidhu who was a Commonwealth Games 2006 medallist is a deputy superintendent of Punjab police. Ms Koshy who led the contest in first two rounds lost due to a point difference in last round.

CRPF and BSF clinched most medals in individual and team events on the first day at Vattiyoorkavu shooting range on Monday. Punjab, BSF and CRPF clichéd first three positions in women’s 10-metre air rifle team events. In 25-metre men’s standard rifle Wazir Singh of BSF clinched gold. CRPF, BSF and Tamil Nadu police bagged first three medals in the 25-metre group event.

The games inaugurated by state police chief Loknath Behera was controlled by national selector T.S. Dhillon, a former IG of CRPF. Around 735 participants and supporting staff will be part of the championship.   Kerala police hope for another medal in Women’s 50-metre three position rifle prone. The events will continue until November 24.
