Kottayam: Man hangs over cooperative bank standstill

Kottayam: A 73-year-old person, who could not withdraw Rs 4 lakh he had deposited in a cooperative bank,  allegedly hanged himself in his home at Erumely on Monday.  He was identified as  Omanakuttan Pillai of Charuvila Puthen Veedu,  Kalaketty near Azhutha.  He was  a supervisor with an auditorium in Kottayam.

According to the statement given by  Pillai’s son C.P. Binu to the police, Pillai was under huge  mental stress as he could not withdraw the money from the Kanamala service cooperative bank following RBI restrictions. He feared that he may lose his deposit. The body of  Pillai was found hanging inside his bedroom at his house at 3 p.m. 

Earlier, Binu, his wife and his mother had gone  to a private hospital at Ponkunnam for a check-up for his wife.  When they returned,  they saw the front door of the house locked. They found his body when they entered the house through the back door. The Erumely police  conducted the inquest and transferred the body to the Kanjirapally taluk hospital. The post-mortem will be held later, said  police.
