GHMC misses out on deadline for construction of function halls

HYDERABAD: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), which took up construction of multipurpose function halls, has been able to complete only nine of the proposed 25 halls in eight years. Against an overall estimated cost of Rs 95.7 crore, nine have been completed at a cost of Rs 30.10 crore, nine under various stages of construction are costing Rs 31.89 crores while seven others, worth Rs 33.71 crore are in still in tender process.

The halls that are aimed at helping weaker sections to organise weddings, small get-togethers and other functions, are said to have amenities that are on par with plush private function halls. While renting the latter will cost a bomb, the multipurpose function halls come at affordable cost. Amenities include a modern dining hall, spacious parking, drinking water, green rooms for the bride and the groom, changing rooms with showers, toilets, compound walls and a community hall in two-storey buildings.

These halls have come up in Ramanthapur, Champapet, Chaitanya Nagar, KPHB Colony, Sitaphal Mandi, Bansilalpet, Maredpally and Western Hills, while functions halls in HF Nagar-II, at Ayyappa Sports Ground, TSIIC Colony, Tarnaka, Patigadda, near Rajiv Swagruha Aarambh Township, Gopannapalli, Gachibowli, Jummerat Bazaar and Addagutta are nearing completion.
