There’s a bit of Christmas in every nook and corner of the city with trees, lights, snowflake patterns, mistletoe and the colour red adorning every major venue in town. Bringing the festive season to life is a fabulous variety of decorations, with several people going out of their way to ensure a fresh twist to their Christmas decor.

Mahadev Krishna from Autumn Leaf Cafe shares, “A quick scan at cafés in the city made us think of how everyone is going the tried and tested way with artificial Christmas trees and lights. So we decided to try something new! Deepthi Pallapolu, one of the partners of the café, came up with the idea of a tree made of wood while artist Shreya Varakhedkar brought it to life.” Interestingly, Mahadev and the team at the café — Manish, Suraj and Poojitha — spent two long sleepless nights to work on it all.

But it’s not just them. Harish Endla from well-known patisserie Kavanah also went all out to give customers something new. “Our café’s essence is nature and we felt it would be ironic to use artificiality in the decor. So we hired a carpenter to work on the specially crafted tree and deer. We got it all made of recycled wood!” he tells us.

Sapna Naidu Franswah, an interior decorator and owner of Bohemian Soul Art shares that she has styled several Christmas trees in wood. She elaborates, “I do something unique every year and this time, I decided to use wood. I have tried to capture the Christmas spirit in the decors that I have done.”

Many people are also experimenting with patterns and colours. Pooja Agarwal and her colleagues at Pause for Perspective built a Christmas tree with books! “We have plenty of books in the office and we thought we’d churn something fun out of it! We looked it up on the Internet and took pointers on how to build it. Voila! We had a fun tree and fun times working on it,” she gushes.
