Pipeline leakages damage roads in Secunderabad Cantonment

HYDERABAD: Residents of several colonies in the Secunderabad Cantonment continue to demand laying of new roads, as many of them are damaged due to pipeline and sewerage related works. The issue is even worse in some localities where the arterial and sub-arterial roads have worn out completely.

Stretches along some of the densely-populated slums like Sriram Nagar in Mud Fort are completely out of shape, with the narrow roads damaged due to pipeline leakages. Residents complain that the authorities invariably pretend to be working on sanctioning funds for the proposed new roads. “The biggest issue in our locality is the lack of proper roads. People walking towards St Anthony’s Church along the road are forced to bear the brunt of the pipeline leakages all the time,” complained G. Ramesh, a local resident.

Same is the state of affairs in P&T Colony, where major chunks of roads are dug for pipeline works, leading to congestion and parking issues. Naresh Kumar, a house owner in the colony, said the road cutting incurred him a loss of Rs 10,000 due to damage to the surroundings of his residence.

“The Cantonment Board started collecting road cutting charges additionally from residents for laying new water connections. The same authorities have damaged all our roads for the common pipeline. How will they compensate for the loss now?” he asked.

Sewerage related issues are making it difficult for residents of A P Nagar in West Marredpally, which falls under the GHMC jurisdiction. Pools of water remain stagnant on the road due to sewage leakages.
