AP takes up SVEEP to increase voting percentage
Vijayawada: NTR district administration on Thursday morning took up a Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme along the TTD Kalyana Mandapam Road in Vijayawada under the aegis of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation.
Speaking on the occasion, NTR district collector S. Dilli Rao said SVEEP programmes will continue to achieve the target of recording at least 85 per cent polling in the forthcoming assembly elections.
He pointed out that SVEEP had been launched by Election Commission of India (ECI) way back in 2011, which fetched good results. Since then, the programme is implemented before every election.
The collector recalled that the average polling during 2019 elections in four assembly constituencies of NTR district was 95 per cent. But in three constituencies it was only 66 per cent.
“That is why, we have launched SVEEP programmes in Vijayawada city to highlight the importance of right to vote and encourage voters to participate in the democratic process in the largest numbers,” Dilli Rao stated.
Vijayawada municipal commissioner Swapnil Dinakar Pundkar asked citizens to contact their BLOs regarding their vote or contact the voter helpline or the voter service portal.
Vijayawada municipal additional commissioner K.V. Satyavati was among those present.
