Doctor Tests Covid Positive in Eluru

As India battles the winter wave, 166 new COVID-19 cases emerge, highlighting the importance of continued vigilance

KAKINADA: After a gap of two years, Andhra Pradesh has registered its first Covid-19 case, with the doctor of a private hospital in Eluru testing positive.

Six persons have been hospitalised with symptoms of cold, cough and fever. Their blood samples had been sent to the lab for testing.

Eluru district medical and health officer (DMHO) Dr. S. Sharmishta told Deccan Chronicle that the doctor has been put in isolation. Blood samples of his four family members have been sent to the lab for tests. Their results are yet to come.

Dr. Sharmishta said those who have been administered Coronavirus vaccine need not worry. But they should be very cautious about their health and follow Covid-19 protocols.

District coordinator of Andhra Pradesh Vaidya Vidhana Parishad (APVVP) hospitals Dr. S. Pal Satish Kumar said all medical equipment and medicines, like oxygen cylinders and ventilators are ready at the hospitals.

Dr. Satish Kumar said in case any patient shows Coronavirus symptoms, the person will be admitted to the isolation ward of the hospital.
