Four of a family die as car collides with lorry in Hanamkonda district

According to the police, all the seven members were travelling in a car to Vemulawada to offer prayers at Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy temple

WARANGAL: Four died while three were injured when the car in which they were travelling was hit by a speeding sand lorry coming from the opposite direction at Penchikalpet village in Elkathurthy mandal of Hanamkonda district in the early hours of on Friday.

Those travelling in the car belonged to a family from Eturnagaram mandal in Mulugu district.

Police said the seven members of the family were proceeding in their car to offer prayers at the Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy Temple in Vemulawada. When the car reached the outskirts of Penchikalpet village a speeding lorry coming in the opposite direction hit the car.

The four dead on the spot have been identified as Manthena Kanthaiah (78), Manthena Shankar (60), Manthena Bharath (29) and Manthena Chandana (16). The three injured are Manthena Renuka (60), Manthena Bhargav (30) and Manthena Sridevi (50).

Police arrived at the spot on information provided by locals. They admitted the injured to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Hospital for treatment. Bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem.

Police have registered a case and are investigating.
