Telangana State Medical Council Results Out, Election Held After 17 Long Years
HYDERABAD: The Healthcare Reforms Doctors Association (HRDA) panel swept the first-ever TS Medical Council elections, the results of which were announced on Friday night.
The elected members include Dr Prathibha, Dr Mahesh Kumar, Dr Raj Kumar, Dr Srinivas G., Dr Kiran Kumar, Dr Anand, Dr Yeggana, Dr Ravi Kumar, Dr Naresh Kumar, Dr Srikanth, Dr Sunny, Dr Vishnu and Dr Imran.
The previous elections were held 17 years ago, in 2007. Nominated members had been continuing from 2013.
A total of 108 doctors contested the polls. Ballot papers being dispatched from September 30 to October 15, and the last day for receiving ballot papers was November 30.
Of 48,000 registered electors (doctors) about 17,900 participated in the polls that saw 40 per cent voting, 13,779 votes were counted, and 3,311 invalid/rejected votes.
“All our efforts, including seeking the intervention of the High Court and Supreme Court, bore fruit. We thank all the doctors who voted for us," said Dr G. Srinivas, general secretary, HRDA. He added that the panel will work hard to ensure all their promises are kept, including eliminating quackery and crosspathy practices of homoeopathic and ayurvedic doctors prescribing allopathy.
