Youth Killed, Another Injured in Accidental Blast in J&K's Samba
Srinagar: A 19-year-old youth Pawan Singh was killed on the spot whereas another person Roshan Singh aged 29 was critically injured when a mortar shell they were reportedly fiddling with went off in Jammu and Kashmir’s border district of Samba on Friday evening.
The police said in a statement the duo-residents of Samba’s Chandli village -sustained splinter injuries when the mortar shell they were reportedly fiddling with exploded in a neighbouring forest area at around 5.00 pm. “Pawan Singh died instantly and Roshan who is critically injured has been admitted to Jammu’s Government-run Medical College Hospital,” a police official said.
The police said that while the investigation into the incident is going on, it is believed that the mortar shell might have been lying in the woods after it was fired from across the border sometime in the past but had not exploded.
