Hyderabad: Elderly killed in Cylinder blast at temple

The incident took place at Samantha Kshethram in B.N. Reddy Nagar of Vanasthalipuram.

We think a half kilo gas cylinder exploded. Due to the impact of the explosion three people were injured. While one had major injuries another suffered a head injury. The third one escaped with minor injuries, police said. (Representational Image)

Hyderabad: An 80-year-old man was killed and a woman injured after a gas cylinder exploded at a temple in Vanasthalipuram on Tuesday.  The incident took place at Samantha Kshethram in B.N. Reddy Nagar of Vanasthalipuram.

The deceased was identified as Smurthi Keerthi, 80, and the injured wa Lalitha, 30, police said. “The gas cylinder at the cooking room exploded during the lunch hour. Apart from the casualties the windows and doors of the nearby rooms were also damaged. The police and Clues Team visited the spot and shifted the injured woman to hospital,” said police inspector of Vanasthalipuram, A. Venkataiah, adding that a case has been filed.
