ASI nod for plan to give Warangal fort a face-lift

WARANGAL: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has given permission for development of the historic Warangal Fort, which was constructed by the Kakatiya dynasty, at a cost of Rs 6.5 crore.
The initiative taken up by Warangal East MLA Nannapuneni Narendar, when he was the city mayor, has borne fruit in the form of the nod given by ASI director general V. Vidyavathi. The legislator, superintendent of ASI Smitha Kumar and municipal commissioner Praveenya, inspected the fort situated in the heart of the city on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, Narendar said that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao was focussing on restoring the lost glory of historic structures in the state. It was this drive that helped Ramappa temple get a world heritage site tag, he said.
With the development of Uttara dwaram, dakshina dwaram, four Kakatiya thoranams, kush mahal and gundu cheruvu, reviving the original shape of various sculptures inside the fort, and marvelous artecraft of the Orugallu artists of those days, all backed by a beautiful lighting system is certain to attract tourists to the Warangal fort, he said.
City planner Ajit Reddy, corporators B. Uma, Bogi Suvarna, Damodar and Suresh were present on the occasion.
