Postal dept jubilant over MoS' congratulatory tweets
Hyderabad: The postal department on Tuesday was in a celebratory mood after receiving appreciation from Union minister of state for communications, Devusinh Chauhan, over proactive action in getting women’s savings accounts opened.
The minister appreciated B. Sonia, branch postmaster of VK Pahad post office under the Suryapet division, for setting a record by opening 118 Mahila Samman Savings Certificate accounts in a day on Saturday, and congratulated the postmaster and staff of Gottiparthy post office, also under Suryapet, for becoming the first ‘Sampoorna Mahila Samman Bachat Gram’ by opening 132 Mahila Samman Savings Certificate accounts.
Dr P.V.S. Reddy, Postmaster General, Hyderabad region, said, “Members of the department are jubilant for this appreciation by the minister, as they are striving hard for the past few months to take the message of various beneficial schemes available at the postal department to common people.”
He said, “Mahila Samman Savings Certificate (MSSC) is a special savings scheme to encourage women's savings. This account can be opened at any post office with a minimum deposit of Rs 1,000 and maximum of Rs 2 lakh, for two years at a fixed higher interest rate of 7.5 per cent, with partial withdrawal option up to 40 per cent of eligible amount and premature closure after completion of six months at an interest of 5.5 per cent.”
