Income tax department steps in, seeks Miyapur land scam info

Cyberabad police has arrested sub registrars and directors of Goldstone in connection with the scam.

Businessman P.S. Prasad, the man behind the Rs 587-crore Miyapur land grab is no stranger to shady land deals.

Hyderabad: The income-tax department has sought information from the Anti Corruption Bureau and TS Crime Investigation Department regarding the Miyapur land scam as part of a  probe under the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Amendment Act, 2016. I-T officials suspect that the lands and other properties pertaining to the accused and the suspects are registered in the name of benamis. Sources said the  department had ope-ned a file regarding the Miyapur land scam and has begun collecting information on the same. The CID is investigating the case.

The CID is investigating the case of alleged illegal transfer of 796 acres of government land to private individuals in Medchal district in which Goldstone owner P.S. Prasad’s involvement is suspected. Cyberabad police has arrested sub registrars and directors of Goldstone in connection with the scam.

The ACB has searched three sub registrars and booked them for having disproportionate assets. In one of the cases, a sub-registrar has properties in the name of his driver and document writers who acted as his benamis. TRS MP K Kesava Rao’s daughter G. Vijayalakshmi was involved where it is alleged that sub-registrar Saleha Quadeer had illegally registered lands.
