Monsoon enters Telangana, rains on for three days

HYDERABAD: Moderate rainfall lashed the city on Thursday as the weatherman officially confirmed the onset of monsoon in the state, bringing down the mercury levels and providing huge relief to residents after a long summer.

The India Meteorological Department, announcing the entry of monsoon, predicted rains to lash the state for three days. They said that the rains would vary in intensity, from light to moderate and at times, very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thundershowers.

The maximum and minimum temperatures were predicted to remain around 35 degrees Celsius (°C) and 24°C, respectively.

Heavy rain and thundershowers are likely to occur at isolated places of Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda and Suryapet of Telangana.

On Thursday, a moderate spell of rain hit several parts of the city, including Balanagar, Chintal, Kukatpally, Madhapur, Begumpet, LB Nagar, Ghatkesar, Keesara, Banjara Hills and Punjagutta, among others.

Gachibowli recorded a rainfall of 2mm, followed by Madhapur (1.5 mm) and Khazipet (1.2 mm).

Across the state, moderate rains hit Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahbubabad, Warangal, Karimnagar, Mulugu and Bhadradri, while very heavy rainfall was recorded in Yadadri, where several parked four-wheelers were submerged at Yadadri.
