PMO responds to letter about SCB merger with GHMC
HYDERABAD: The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has responded to a letter written to Prime Minster Narendra Modi asking for quicker action on the merger of the Secunderabad Cantonment's with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
A representative from the PMO spoke with Ravindra Sanki, a resident and president of the Cantonment Vikas Manch. "The representative told me that discussions are on and, because it's a policy matter, several things have to be considered to make a 'procedural'. So, it will take a little more time," Sanki told Deccan Chronicle.
The call came in response to Sanki and several other residents' letters sent to the PMO questioning the delay in implementing the ministry of defence's decision regarding the merger of the two entities.
"More than four months have passed since receiving the report of the high-level committee on the merger of Secunderabad Cantonment, but the Centre or the MoD haven't said anything on the matter yet. We wrote the letter referring to the 'excision of civil areas of Secunderabad Cantonment' order and requested authorities to take immediate action on the same.
Appreciating the response of the PMO to the letter, the residents said, "We hope that the Prime Minister will soon take a decision and free the people of the Cantonment from these laws."
Earlier, as part of their mission to seek a quick response from the government, residents from several areas and wards of the cantonment sent about 5,000 postcards to the PMO.
